INFO:
José Fossa was an Argentine footballer who played as a left half-back and left full-back. Born in Boedo, Buenos Aires (14/08/1904), Fossa was a loyal supporter of San Lorenzo from a very young age. He officially debuted for the club of his dreams on October 19, 1919, in a 1-0 loss against Estudiantil Porteño, playing as a left back alongside the San Lorenzo legend Pedro Omar. He scored his first goal in the first division on May 6, 1923, in a 2-1 victory against River Plate at their old stadium on Alvear and Tagle streets. During the 1923 championship, where he won his first title, he had to occasionally replace the notable Pedro Omar in defense, as well as Enrique Monti. In the 1924 championship, also won by San Lorenzo, he played in the midfield with Alfredo Sánchez and Luis Monti, demonstrating admirable security, a result of his tenacity and determination. After finishing as runners-up in 1925 and 1926, he was part of the brilliant team that won the 1927 title, leading San Lorenzo to go 47 matches unbeaten between 1926 and 1927. He was a starter in the matches for the two international cups won on June 22, 1924, and December 30, 1928. In the professional era, he achieved his sixth title with the memorable 1933 champion team, returning to defense as a left-back, forming a duo with Félix Pacheco. He retired in 1934, but his winning mentality led him to achieve success as a coach for San Lorenzo, winning the Copa de Honor in 1936. José Hipólito Fossa, more than 90 years after his retirement as a footballer, remains one of the greatest legends of Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro, being the sixth player with the most matches played in the club’s history, with 325 appearances. Additionally, along with Leandro Romagnoli (the club’s greatest idol), he is the most successful player in San Lorenzo's history, with six titles each as a player.
