INFO:
Carlos Buttice was an Argentine footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Monte Grande, Esteban Echeverría (12/23/1942), Buttice is an exceptional case in Argentine football as he never went through youth divisions in any club. Buttice was discovered at the age of 16 during a friendly match at his father's estate in Cañuelas, and since he wasn’t playing for any club, his discoverer, 'Panchito' Vázquez, took him to play for C.A. Los Andes, who loaned him out without a purchase option the following year. After a successful year at Huracán, in 1966, he joined their archrival, San Lorenzo, where he would become a legend. He made his official debut on February 19, 1966, in a 1-0 loss against Independiente, but his performances in the following matches dazzled everyone and earned him the starting goalkeeper position, displacing Agustín Irusta, who had been the breakout goalkeeper just two seasons earlier. Buttice is remembered as the goalkeeper and captain of 'Los Matadores,' the San Lorenzo team that won the 1968 Torneo Metropolitano undefeated, with Buttice conceding only 10 goals in 22 matches. 'Batman' is considered, along with Irusta and Torrico, one of the best and most important goalkeepers in San Lorenzo's history, having conceded 196 goals in his 192 matches wearing the azulgrana shirt, with 66 clean sheets. After his time at San Lorenzo, in 1970, he left Argentina to join América-RJ in Brazil. The following year, he moved to E.C. Bahia, also in Brazil, where he became one of the most iconic goalkeepers in the club's history by winning the 1973 Campeonato Baiano (which paved the way for a seven-year winning streak) and came very close to winning both the Bola de Prata for the best goalkeeper in the Brasileirão and the Bola de Ouro for the best player in the Brasileirão (both won by his compatriot and national teammate Mario Agustín Cejas). In 1974, he joined Corinthians on the recommendation of Rivellino and Sylvio Pirillo, initially as a backup for Ado, but he quickly earned the starting spot. That would be the legendary goalkeeper's last year in Brazil, where he holds the record for being the goalkeeper who faced Pelé the most times without conceding a goal, having faced him 15 times. Batman's career after Brazil continued at C.A. Atlanta, back in Argentina, Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, Unión Española in Chile, where he stayed for three years and won the 1977 Chilean Championship, C.A. Banfield, and finally ended his sporting career at C.A. Colón in 1983.
