Víctor Ramos is an Argentine former footballer who played as a centre-forward. Born in Rosario, Santa Fe (04/09/1958), he began his career at Newell's Old Boys. Originally developed as a central midfielder in the youth ranks, he was converted into a forward by coach Jorge Griffa and made his professional debut in 1978. He quickly established himself in the first team, scoring his first Primera División goal on 8 July 1979 in a 5–1 win over Huracán. That same year, he made 18 appearances and scored 6 goals. Ramos enjoyed a prolific spell in the early 1980s. In 1981, he scored 16 goals in 30 matches, further building his reputation as a clinical striker. His peak came in the 1983 Torneo Metropolitano, when he scored 30 goals in 34 games to finish as the league’s top scorer. In 1984, he moved to Europe after signing for FC Nantes for US$620,000. He made 29 appearances and scored 12 goals in France, helping the club to a runner-up finish in the league. He later joined Sporting Toulon-Var, where he continued to score regularly, netting 32 goals in 67 appearances. In 1987, Ramos returned to Newell's Old Boys, the club where he had made his name, but playing another role as a supporting striker or occasional winger. He became an important part of the squad that won the 1987–88 Argentine Primera División and also helped Newell's reach the 1988 Copa Libertadores final, where they were defeated by the Uruguayan team Club Nacional. He remained with the club until 1989 before having brief spells at Nueva Chicago and Unión de Santa Fe in the lower divisions, where he eventually retired in 1991.
Ramos was called up to the Argentina national team in 1983 by Carlos Bilardo and made his senior debut on 12 May 1983 against Chile. He went on to earn 10 caps for Argentina, scoring once in a 2–2 draw against Ecuador, and was part of the squad that competed in the 1983 Copa América. Nicknamed "Condorito", after the famous Chilean comic-strip character, Ramos became one of the most recognizable figures in Newell's Old Boys history. Standing at just 1.70 metres, he belonged to a tradition of South American centre-forwards whose effectiveness relied on anticipation, movement, and finishing rather than physical dominance. Ramos was a penalty-box forward whose greatest strengths were his positional sense, instinctive movement, and ability to attack spaces between defenders. Ramos finished his career with a legacy that places him among the greatest players ever produced by Newell's Old Boys. With 104 official goals in 251 matches, he remains the club's all-time leading goalscorer in professional competitions, a record that has endured for decades.
