Known as the "Clown Prince of Football", he is generally regarded as one of English football's finest ever entertainers. Shackleton is fondly remembered by those fans who were lucky enough to have witnessed him in full flight, embarrassing entire defenses with his slick dribbling and magical footwork. Teammates described Shackleton as capable of controlling the ball as though it were on a string, completely at his beck and call. Arguably the most popular player in the club's history, men (With Gary Rowell and Kevin Phillips) to score 100 goals for Sunderland since the war, but more than the goals he scored, it was the goals Shack made and how he created them that make him a legend.
