As an incisive, goal-scoring right winger, he was a key component in the team that won four trophies between 1968 and 1970. Alongside team mates Colin Bell and Francis Lee he was the third member of the “Holy Trinity”. He is strong and brave with good speed for a winger, usually drifting wide to create space and provide assists to other fowards. His technique & dribbling skills are solid enough to hold the ball upward, while his back towards the goal. It's given that Mike's job is to supply opportunities for others rather than provide the goals himself, he delivered most of his assists with accurate short passes or low crosses from the touchline but he also provided good lofted crosses every now and then. With his angular gait Summerbee’s sharpened elbows were often stuck out at near 90 degrees, so acting as stabilisers as he slalomed in and out of defences leaving stud marks on opponents and scorch marks on the pitch. Quote: THE BRAVEST PLAYER WITH HIS BACK TO THE GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN. WHEN HE IS BUZZING HE TAKES THEM ALL APART. Spoiler: show |
