Nguyen Van Mong was born on October 10, 1946, won Merdeka gold medal in 1966, co-champion of the 1971 Presta Sukan tournament, 4 times participated in SEAP Games, runner-up in 1967 and 1973, participated twice in Asiad 1966, 1970, participated in the 1968 Olympic qualifiers, participated South Vietnam football team from 1965-1974, famous for his role as a defender, often wearing the number 4 shirt. Starting as a striker, but thanks to his good jumping and ball winning, especially his very quick and decisive running-in and header, he was converted to a center back next to Tam Lang.
