'Pierre' Nhung was a winger and striker. Beside the short name Pierre, during his peak, he was given the nickname "Divine horse" because even though he was only 1.6m tall and "thick", he was famous for his speed and agility, extremely fast to score in the 16m50 area. During his 15 years playing for the national team, Nhung always stood out with his tricky play that disrupted the opponent's defense to score goals.
He was an important member of South Vietnam team that won the 1959 Southeast Asian Games (SEAP Games) championship after defeating Thailand 3-1 in the final, the 4th place at the 1960 Asian Cup, the 4th place at the 4th Asian Games - 1962 in Indonesia and then in March 1964 won 2-0 against Israel (the strongest Asian team of the 60s) in the second leg of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic qualifying match.
Although born in Saigon in 1933, Nhung's original nationality was French. When he became a Vietnamese citizen in the late 1950s, he still had the name Pierre Tran Van Nhung. He joined the CSS football team from a very young age. When he was 17 years old, he played for the Vietnamese team (during the French colonial period) and attended the 2nd Asian Games in Manila in May 1954 in the Philippines. After the 1954 Geneva Agreement, when he was not yet naturalized in Vietnam, the French were ordered to withdraw back to the country and invited Pierre to go to France to play football, but he refused and continued to score beautiful goals in Vietnam for until retiring at the end of 1974.
