Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Attack Minded Southworth was christened the "Prince of Dribblers". A contemporary wrote that: "His dodging, his neat passing, his speed and general accuracy in shooting won the hearts of the spectators at the Leamington ground. He is built for speed, he plays an unselfish game; he's good at tackling and has excellent judgement. Despite being famous for his terrific shots, many match reports of that time revealed his heading ability. Arguably the finest goal-scorer in the Football League during its early years, Southworth scored in all three of his appearances for England. He could've made more appearances for the national team, however on several occasions, Jack was withdrawn from squads, presumably by Blackburn Rovers (clubs had a veto in those days) whilst on other occasions, he was a non-playing reserve.
