Noh Alam Shah is one of Singapore’s most iconic footballers, best known for his prolific scoring record and passionate displays, especially in Southeast Asian competitions. Born in 1980, he began his professional career with Sembawang Rangers before making his name at Tampines Rovers, where he enjoyed great domestic success. Alam Shah also played abroad with Indonesia’s Arema Malang, becoming a fan favorite due to his physical presence and goal-scoring exploits. His most celebrated moment came during the 2007 AFF Championship, where he scored a record-breaking 10 goals in a single tournament, including a stunning 7-goal haul against Laos. Over his international career, he netted 35 goals in 85 appearances for Singapore, helping the Lions secure two AFF Championship titles (2004, 2007). "Ah Long" would have played for Notts County after a successful trial, if it hadn’t been for the work permit issues.
On the pitch, Alam Shah was a classic goal poacher with a fierce competitive edge. He combined strength, aggression, and instinctive finishing, making him a constant threat inside the penalty box. While not the most technically refined forward, he compensated with excellent positioning, powerful shots, and an unrelenting work rate. He was especially effective in aerial duels and often bullied defenders with his physicality. Off the ball, he was known for his fiery temperament and occasional disciplinary issues, but at his peak, his passion often fueled inspirational performances.
