He is what is called a "left attacking midfielder" - considered a left winger and a "polutka" (in Serbian for a player who is between attack and defence, but usually an AMF). For instance, "Polutka" were Susic, Sliskovic, Boban, Prosinecki, Mijatovic, Savicevic and Stojkovic. Some of them were AMF, CMF, SS and even on the side.
Essentially, it is somewhere fair to put him as LMF/LWF. He did mention in the interview that he's most comfortable at "Half" position - which is that of DMF/CMF, but he was also not a number 10 (from the numbering standard of 60s and 70s). He is Vardar's #11 - so most probably a left winger. It's somewhat hard to define, I have found sources that he's one of the best (if not THE best) Vardar left winger, but also an AMF and a "midfield player".
From what i read, he didn't perform much at the National Team mainly due to Dzajic being the sovereign at LWF, but also some of the reasons are that of playing in a "smaller" club in Yugoslav football. He was technical, fast, shot with both legs well (it was said he could equally play at right wing). He could occupy many positions in the field. "Tireless in the game, master of ball handling, refined technician, unstoppable in breakthroughs, as a child, he excelled at his dribbles"
"Meto was – unpredictable, unstoppable, he simply brought the opposing defensive footballers into a panic situation. When he went on the attack, he did it quickly, furiously, and most importantly, the ball was always under his control. He was simply so skilled with the control of the ball that there was no chance for it to escape him. His performances on free kicks from 20 meters and more were a special story, something everyone expected in the stadium. Meto's punches were strong, precise, accurate to the millimeter. Even when he set up the ball, the excitement in the audience grew, and after the shot was taken, everyone seemed to see the ball in the goal. Such blows, many times decided the fate of Vardar, the final outcome also depended on them."
In the polls of ex-yu football, Spasovski was at #32 from 50 best Left Wingers in Ex-Yu football, beating players such as Mujkic, Bosko Antic, Pavlica, Prekazi, Dusan Pesic, Srebrenko Repcic, Nebojsa Vucicevic, Vukoje, Klincarski, Vislavski and Ivezic. It's maybe good to take some of these players into consideration for comparison.
For instance, he's considered a better Left Winger in Vardar's history than their LWF legend Vasil Ringov
Still, there are some things to be corrected/added here:
- he was right footed (WFA is 6, WFF 7)
- played on the right side as RWF as well (similar to Ilija Petkovic, Vabec, Sestic, Zlatko Vujovic)
- Nickname: "Meto"
- to be fair, i think that his TS, ACC, AGI, LPA needs to be lower. From everything, it doesn't seem that he was a standard left winger crosser of that time, but one who goes towards the goal, so maybe even Incisive Run can be added.
