I was always under impression that he deserves even a 90 jumping ability. He had a heavenly jump and header (one of the strongest i've seen from the 70s, together with Dave Watson), extremely strong shot with left, strong physique and speed. Decent on the ball. Always fighting for the ball as bravely as a bull. He prided himself on his ability to skilfully support his team's attacks, which is why many experts believe that he could have been used more in midfield. However, he preferred to grind the opposing forwards as a member of the defensive line, occasionally filling in at left-back. I would need to revisit some of the videos and texts for other stats, but besides jump, i remember his strong shot as well, which i think deserves 85 at least. He was really a force of nature for the time, and perhaps even deserves 2-3 points up in ATT, as i recall a lot of his runs forward. I guess his injury tolerance can go to C and growth type is Early/Peak, as the injuries started in 1977. He even earned comparisons with Duncan Edwards, but injuries destroyed his career. Bobby Robson even described him as "the best English-born player he has ever seen". Beattie has only played nine matches in the national jersey. Such a sad fact was later reflected in Bobby Robson. "Nine starts? He should have won 99 of them, damn, he should have been the most frequently represented Englishman of all time." Billy Bonds (former West Ham star) once described him as the John Terry of that time, only in his words more powerful. Nickname: "Tank" | "Diamond" |
