Info:

He started playing football in his hometown of Veľké Bielice and continued his career in Nitra as a student of the construction industry. In 1956, he joined Slovan Bratislava as a youth representative, making his league debut at the age of 18 on 17 June 1956 in a match against Červená hvízda Bratislava (0–0) and scoring his first two goals on 14 April 1957 in a 6–1 win over Baník Ostrava. In the 1957–58 season, with 10 goals, he was Slovan's second-highest scorer behind Anton Moravčík (12 goals). During his military service, he played for the teams Rudá hvízda Brno and ČH Bratislava, which were formed during the reorganization of physical education and represented the security department. In the autumn of 1960, he returned to Tehelné Pole. In the 1961/62 season, he was the team's top scorer with 12 goals, and in the 1963/64 season, he shared the position with Ľudovít Cvetler (both with 9 goals). He never won the championship with Slovan, but was runner-up four times. He also won the championship with Tatran Prešov, where he played for a season and a half.

Jozef Obert's name is associated with several historic records in the history of Czechoslovak football. In the 1963 Czechoslovak Cup final, he contributed five goals to the 9:0 victory over Slavia Prague. He scored the fastest goal in the history of the Czechoslovak Football League: on 21 March 1964, in the Sparta Prague - Slovan Bratislava match (1:2), beating the home goalkeeper in the sixth second. He also scored one of the fastest hat-tricks against Sparta: in the autumn of 1963, he beat goalkeeper Kramerius in five minutes.

Spoiler: show

Zahral si proti Švajčiarsku, Bulharsku, Taliansku i Turecku.

- Obertovi sa hovorilo, že pohybom i gólmi pripomína legendárneho Ladislava Kubalu.
