Between 1932 and 1935, he played 21 matches for the Czechoslovak national team as a midfielder. Alongside Košťálek and Krčil, he formed a quality trio in the team, but he did not score any goals. He was a member of the team that won the silver medal at the 1934 World Cup in Italy. From 1922 to 1929, he played for I. ČsŠK Bratislava, then moved to North Bohemia for the 1929–30 season to play for Teplitzer FK, and subsequently played for Slavia Prague. He spent six years there and after 1936 played for SK Baťa Zlín, where he finished his football career. He played a total of 84 matches and scored 11 goals in the first division.

- He felt most comfortable in the middle of the attack or on the left wing. He scored three goals against the famous Newcastle United in an 8-1 victory in May 1929. At that time, he played in an attack that is an ornament of our history: Šoral, Bulla, Priboj, Čambal, Uher. That same year, he was called up for military service in Litoměřice, but played for Teplitzer FK. There, he was converted into a central midfielder.

- For years, memorials have recalled how omnipresent and tireless he was, a worthy representative of the legendary Káďa. ‘Čambal has the ability to bring order to the chaos of the pitch,’ wrote the newspaper at the time. He was a man of strong legs and will, he owned the entire field and every ball. He was a football thinker and an unusually elegant player.

- Only then did Čambal convince the national team coaches that he was at least as good as the veteran Káďa, that he had a remarkable ability to organize chaos and make the ball run across the pitch like an orderly and obedient fox terrier. Čambal had an iron will, strong legs, and unwavering stamina. He played with his head, both ways. He owned the entire field and the entire ball. He rarely faltered, rarely became exhausted.

- He arrived at Slavia by detour. At ŠK Bratislava (now Slovan) and Teplice, he played as a left winger and was the "passer" for the club's goalscorers.

- The duo of Čambal and Krčil formed the backbone of Slavia and the national team for the next five years. Even at the famous 1934 World Cup in Italy, Čambal was the "brain" of the starting eleven.

- Getting into the Czechoslovak national team among the best players of Slavia and Sparta was a miracle. He achieved it and represented the country 21 times (1932-35). I often read in the newspapers that the aces of the time, such as Šindelár, Meazza, and Sárosi, had disappointed, but the truth was that they were watched and practically eliminated by the Slovak defender. He was a pillar of the national team at the 1934 World Cup in Italy, where he played in the final and won a silver medal.

- They wrote about him that he had the ability to transform chaos into order on the pitch. His omnipresence, his tirelessness, his entire field, every ball, were always remembered. As soon as he finished his active career in Zlín (1940), he became a coach.

- The First Czechoslovak Army soon discovered his Slovak origins, and in 1927 he appeared in their attack. He immediately contributed to the first Czechoslovak amateur championship title. He truly shone in the middle of the attack or on the left side. He scored three goals against the famous Newcastle United in a sensational 8-1 victory in May 1929.
