Info:

Andersson was selected in the Swedish team for the 1934 World Cup, where he played in Sweden's two matches in the tournament when they were eliminated by Germany in the quarterfinals. Andersson was also selected for the team that participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but, along with Fritz Berg and Arne Nyberg, declined the offer because they “did not want to be part of Adolf's propaganda game.” However, according to Dagens Nyheter, the cancellation was due to “known political reasons: pressure from the Gothenburg trade unions.”

Andersson, who for most of his club career belonged to IFK Göteborg and was Swedish champion there in 1935 and 1942, played a total of 29 international matches (0 goals) between 1931 and 1937.

From the 1941/42 season, Andersson was player-coach of his IFK, which won the Swedish Championship in his first season. However, after the autumn season of 1942, Andersson hung up his boots and also left the coaching position, which was taken over by Henning Svensson in the spring of 1943.

- With his 469 appearances and two Swedish Championship gold medals in 16 seasons, Ernst Andersson is one of the club's all-time greatest players. He ranks sixth in terms of number of seasons and for a long time played the most games, but has since fallen to eighth place. As a player he possessed impressive technique and a keen eye for the game, which he successfully combined with working hard for the team and demanding the same from his teammates. After Arsenal undertook a tour of Scandinavia in the summer of 1931 and met the team from the city of Gothenburg where Ernst had played brilliantly, the world star of the time, David Jack, named him the best player in the Nordic region and one of the best midfielders he had ever seen.
