Info:

Right back Nils Axelsson is one of three HIF players who have become Swedish champions five times. The first time was in 1928/29, the last time in 1940/41 and that year he was also cup champion. A historic achievement, as it was the first edition of the cup tournament in Sweden.

Nils Axelsson came to HIF from IFK Helsingborg in 1925 and played 20 seasons for the club. He finished in 1944 and then had ten Swedish Championship medals in his prize cabinet.

Spoiler: show
- Axelsson was a classy fullback with good technique, ball control and touch.

- He was a very elegant type of player and never injured a teammate in his entire career. But he was also never cautioned.

- Nisse Axelsson was not a left back. He played as a right back, but he was the most famous exponent of HIF captain Bill Pettersson's Helsingborg system, which revolutionized soccer at the time and was behind HIF's unprecedented successes.
In practice, this meant that Nisse functioned as a central defender/midfielder, while Nisse Rosén was left free to devote great attention to the game and attack. So if Sporten places Nisse as a left back in this series, it doesn't really matter: his task would not have been significantly different.

- Nils Axelsson was a gentleman on the field, a technical player who did not break the rules. It is said that he never caused a free kick. That's probably not true, but in any case his number was very limited.

- There he became known for an elegant style of play based on good technique, ball control and a good feel for the ball. Axelsson was called “the elegant of the elegant” and played his entire career without being cautioned; however, he scored only one goal for HIF in the 584 games he played for the club.

Quote:
He was known as “The Silent One” because he was sparing with words. On the other hand, he was more conscientious about his attire, something unusual among footballers in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. “He had a whole closet full of suits,” says his son Berndt.

Quote:
Lundahl himself wrote in Dagens Nyheter about the HIF player celebrating his 70th birthday:
“He is our most elegant right back of all time. He moved like a dancer and was not only technical, quick, on the ball and precise, but also offensive. A neat guy on and off the field who deserves every ovation”.
