Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Attack MindedInfo: During the 1930 FIFA World Cup, Wetzer became the captain and coach of the Romanian team alongside Octav Luchide , under the direction of Costel Rădulescu. This was the decision made by Rădulescu in the weeks leading up to the tournament. In May 1930, the Romanians lost the King Alexander Cup (a two-team event) to Yugoslavia in Belgrade . At that time Emerich Vogl was the team captain. Wetzer was reinstated two weeks later for a friendly against Greece in Bucharest. This decision brought considerable rewards for both Rădulescu and Wetzer, as Wetzer scored 5 goals in an 8-1 victory for his team. Romania was grouped with Uruguay and Peru in the tournament, defeating the Peruvians 3-1 before losing to the eventual winners and hosts 4-0. The second of these matches was held at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo . Wetzer was a prolific scorer for Romania. He and Bodola were the top scorers in the first edition of the Balkan Cup won by Romania . In that tournament alone they scored 7 goals each for their country . In total, Wetzer would play 17 times for Romania, scoring 13 goals . - Did you know that there is a footballer in our country who scored 1047 goals? The holder of this record, who surprised almost the entire continent with his high level of play, the effectiveness of his interventions and his impeccable technique, is Rudi Wetzer.
- Wetzer was the best striker. Although others may have achieved more, let's not forget that he was the one who worked the hardest. Everyone played with Rudy, everyone was led by this genius of our soccer. As in his glory days, he scored when he had to score, but the most interesting thing is his way forward. The precision of his openings, the subtlety of his hat tricks were thrilling. Let us not forget that, in addition to the goals he scored, Schwartz's goals and Bodola's last point are closely related to Wetzer's initiatives.
- According to sports historians, Wetzer Rudolf was the first “professional footballer” in the history of Romanian soccer to be signed by a team for a substantial sum of money. Under the name Weter Rudolf, he was part of the Újpest team, with which he won the Hungarian championship, the cup and the Central European Cup in 1928. He earned a reputation as a highly technical, resourceful, skilful and effective striker.
- After his return as player-coach of Ripensia Timisoara, he played the last 15 minutes of each half with high intensity, concentration and fierce South American-style play, completely surprising and disorganizing his opponents. Quote: Highlights during a soccer match:
- Juventus, for whom the away match was a training, defeated the Lower Danube champion with a crushing score. If we say that in the second half the Bucharest team in attack did not want to take advantage of all the opportunities given to them by Wetzer I.
- The forward line, much more connected, gained, day by day, thanks to the presence of Wetzer, the necessary cohesion and efficiency.
- Juventus kicks off. Wetzer throws to Maior, who starts, passes to Rafinski who scores unstoppably after two minutes of play. Returned to the center, the ball is thrown to Dobo, who takes off and scores the second point. Five minutes passed, time in which Wetzer combined with the inside players, to end up sending to Rafinski who scored, unstoppably, the third point.
- After only one minute, the same phase is repeated, with a point scored by Rafinski. The game does not get past Vogl who continuously serves the home team. In the twenty-second minute, a triple combination ends with a new point scored by Rafinski. After one minute, it is Carianopol's turn to increase the score. After another four minutes, Rafinski masterfully combines with Wetzer and shoots cleanly at goal. The home side, completely dominated and exhausted, conceded corners. At one of them, Wetzer I intercepts and scores with a header. The Brăilen crowd concentrates on the goal. They couldn't prevent Rafinski from adding to the score in the 35th and 37th minutes and Dobo in the 40th (11-0).
- And the strikers unleash two beautiful attacks that bring Bacinski - until now a mere spectator, like the defenders - back to reality. The <<Juventus>> is performing admirably in all aspects. Right at the restart, Carianopol scores after a pass from Wetzer I.
- The red-blue ace personally broke a goal record and proved that he is absolutely necessary in the attack of the national team. Admittedly, he had a director of the caliber of Rudolf Wetzer in excellent form. The Juventus center forward demonstrated things for which the public acclaimed him.
- From this point of view, Carianopol and Bărbulescu were very weak, and as for the rest, both seemed to play with Wetzer for the first time. The former international was the only real striker. He always opened up, made countless passes that were not taken advantage of by his teammates and also scored two splendid points. Without him, Juventus' progress would not have existed. Well, Dobo was Wetzer's only partner.
- In an opposing attack, Bacinsky saves a sure point. Finally, Sile Georgescu throws to Dobo, who, after a wonderful run, passes to Wetzer, who, from 15 meters, sends a bomb into the corner of the besarabian goal (m 25) (1:0 p. Juventus).
- Wetzer distributes balls on the volley, but lacks precision.
- In front of a Gloria attack, Bacinsky defends a strong shot by Bally. Bucharest's counter-offensive puts Wetzer I in possession. The international dribbles to the right, drawing the entire opposing defense there, and throws Maior II to the left. The unmarked Maior II, unmarked, approaches the goal and sends the ball into the net without the outstretched goalkeeper being able to do anything (2:0 for Juventus).

Updating... Apparently he had a thin build, but he held the ball well, so I decided not to give him so much balance. I emphasize this because of the position he occupies (CF), also as a distributor to his wingers and midfielders, good technique and dribbling when required, the same in his finishing, and also a regular header.
