Info:

He started his career at Alianza Lima. He was the top scorer of the Peruvian tournament in 1949 with 18 goals and in 1952 with 22 goals. He is the top scorer of this team in the history of the Classic of Peruvian soccer with 18 goals. He is also famous for scoring 5 goals in Alianza's historic 9-1 win over Universitario de Deportes in 1949. During his eight years at Alianza, Salinas played 127 First Division matches and scored 102 goals, which still makes him the striker with the best goals scored average in an intima jersey (0.8 per match). In 1955 he moved to Ciclista Lima where he played until 1961, ending his career the following year with Juventud Gloria, which played in the Second Division.

- He played as a forward in the Barrio Obrero team at the age of 21. Two years later, in 1948, he went to try out for Alianza, where he convinced coach Adelfo Magallanes. Salinas earned his place from the start thanks to his bravery and powerful mid-range shot. Salinas' shot was memorable - according to some, he even hit it harder than ‘Lolo’ Fernandez - and thanks to it he earned the nickname that immortalized him. Playing in Piura, he took a shot that was saved by the rival goalkeeper, who complained on the ground and said “oh, how ugly he kicks this one”. Since then, Juan Emilio Salinas became known as ‘El Feo’ (The Ugly One).

- Among many other things that are told about his shooting, it is said that one day against Sport Boys he had to kick a free kick. He hit the ball so hard that when it hit defender Juan Mostto, he was deprived.

- During his eight years at Alianza, Salinas played 127 First Division matches and scored 102 goals, which still keeps him as the striker with the best goal average in an intima jersey (0.8 per match). He enjoyed the support of teammates such as Óscar ‘Huaqui’ Gómez Sánchez, Félix Castillo and Emilio Vargas, with whom he had a wonderful understanding.

The renowned journalist, also deceased, Manuel Doria, said that, from the beginning, he was a great player: “He was a cannonballer without equal, and I saw him score seven goals in his debut in the reserve team against Atlético Chalaco”.

Quote:
The critics surrendered to the extraordinary scorer: “He is the new cannonballer, with a good physique and very strong shots with both feet” - said the newspaper El Comercio in an article on January 18, 1949.

Quote:
Eduardo San Roman, renowned sports journalist and fan of La (U) says: “For me he was more than Lolo”. El Feo kicked without flying, like Héctor Chumpitaz. Several times he injured goalkeepers, like the one time he even injured Teodulo Legario (Aliancista's goalkeeper) at halftime of the match against Independiente.

But what was the reason for such a strong shot? “Maybe because he walked a lot, from Lima to Miraflores”, said Salinas himself in an interview in 2001. The truth is that he trained a lot after practice. For five years Dimas Zegarra did not catch his free kicks or shots on the run.
