The right winger also played a key role in Switzerland's success in the 1934 World Cup in Italy (reaching the quarter-finals). Von Känel had been playing for FC Biel since 1928. Naturally, he was repeatedly courted by other clubs, but Von Känel remained loyal to Biel. It wasn't until the 1939/1940 season that he added another season to his roster with Servette Geneva, at the request of the legendary Trello Abegglen, which culminated in a championship victory. Von Känel was born on October 30, 1909, in La Chaux-de-Fonds and died on April 28, 1991.
