At the age of 17, he briefly moved to Split, where he played for HNK Hajduk Split, where he became a true football star in 1937 for Sparta Prague. He played for them in the league for many years. He played for Letná from 1937 to 1955. He is one of Letná's club legends, the only Spartan footballer to win championship titles in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. He won six Czechoslovak championship titles (1938, 1939, 1946, 1948, 1952, 1954) and one Protectorate League title (1944). He played 688 matches for Sparta, 352 of them in the league. He scored 98 goals, 50 of them in the league. He ended his career again at SK Nusle. His best footballing years were in the early 1940s, after the liberation, he continued to represent the team, but now as a full-back, a position he resumed during the war.
