He was a Czech footballer who played for the Czechoslovak national team, won a bronze medal at the 1960 European Championship, and participated in two World Cups: in Switzerland in 1954 and in Sweden in 1958.
He played 22 matches for the Czechoslovak national team and scored one goal (in a 1954 World Cup qualifier against Romania). He played in the 1st division for Sparta Prague (then called Spartak Sokolovo) from 1949 to 1952, and then for Dukla Prague (from 1952 to 1966), with whom he won seven Czechoslovak championship titles (1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964) and one Czechoslovak Cup (1961).
