He began his career with his hometown club, Politehnica Timișoara. Since the Timișoara regional championship was dominated by Chinezul, their local rival at the time, he was unable to participate in the national final. In 1929, he left Poli and signed for local rival Banatul, but later that year he moved to România Cluj and joined Universitatea Cluj in 1931.

When the Romanian professional league, Divizia A, was founded in 1932, U Cluj was one of the founding members, and Sfera played its first match in the country's top flight on September 11, 1932. After finishing runners-up in 1933, U Cluj missed out on the championship again the following year. In 1934, Sfera signed for Venus Bucharest, one of the most successful teams of the 1930s. With Venus, he won the Romanian championship in 1937, 1939 and 1940. When the season was suspended in 1941 due to the outbreak of World War II, Sfera ended his career.
