Robbert Schilder was a versatile, technically and tactically disciplined Dutch midfielder and left-back who built a solid career in Dutch football, with notable spells at NAC Breda and FC Twente. A product of Ajax, Schilder struggled to establish himself at the Amsterdam club, but found his best form over the years when playing for teams that valued his adaptability and reading of the game.
At NAC Breda, he gained space and prestige as a reliable player, able to play as a full-back, as a defensive midfielder or as a left midfielder. His good positioning, secure passing and tactical intelligence made him an important player in formations that required defensive balance and patient build-up. These characteristics caught the attention of FC Twente, who signed him in 2012, shortly after the departure of some important names in a transition phase after the most successful period in the club's history.
At Twente, Schilder maintained his identity as a versatile player, playing mainly in midfield but also covering the wing when necessary. Although he was not a key player, he was a reliable player, valued by coaches for his tactical discipline and ability to perform various roles efficiently. He later had a good spell at SC Cambuur, captaining the team in the Eerste Divisie (second division), until retiring in 2022, playing for AFC, in semi-professional football.
