Renato Abreu was a midfielder who played for Flamengo twice, scoring 73 goals in 271 games and being the club's third highest scorer in the 21st century until being surpassed by Gabigol (Gabriel Barbosa). He was a key player in the team's Copa do Brasil win in 2006 and was the team's top scorer in two seasons, in 2005 and 2006. He also participated in the start of the victorious campaing 2013 Copa do Brasil.
Renato's standing out characteristic was his long-range shots and free kicks, scoring 25 between the two spells at Flamengo. Beyond that, earlier in his career he was a very combative player with a good vision of the game, decent passing and dribbling skills and near the end he was a much slower player, controlling the pace and distributing the game for his teammates.
