Vilson was center back of good stature, strong in the tackle, with good physical imposition and decent versatility, who came through Madureira and had notable spells at major clubs such as Vasco, Grêmio, Palmeiras and Corinthians. With a simple style of play, strength in the air and tactical commitment, he built a his career as a reliable defender, although without much media attention. At Vasco, he was part of the team that gained promotion back to Série A in 2009, while at Grêmio he had good moments, alternating between starting in the line-up and bench in competitive squads; then being transfered to Palmeiras where he participated of Copa Libertadores da América in 2013. At Corinthians, he faced a series of injuries that hindered his continuity, but he still contributed with his experience in important moments for the squad. Vilson was the typical discreet and efficient defender, who stood out more for his regularity, combativeness and defensive reading than for his technical attributes, building a reasonable career in Brazilian football.
