Carlinhos (Carlos Eduardo Duarte Ribeiro) was a promising left-back who was discovered by Fluminense in 1975, the year he joined the team known as "Máquina Tricolor", which won the Rio de Janeiro championship that year and also in 1976, playing as a reserve for Marco Antônio and Rodrigues Neto. Also in 1975, he was part of the Brazilian Under-23 team that won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico City.
He "rose to prominence" at the club around 1977, when he began to have more opportunities among the starting players, especially after the departures of Marco Antônio and Rodrigues Neto. However, Carlinhos never established himself as a regular starter, as the renowned Marinho Chagas was hired and took over the position during the 1977 and 1978 seasons.
Discreet on and off the field, just like his older brother Cléber, Carlinhos was considered a reliable reserve, solid defensively and capable of fulfilling his role well on the left side. His stability contrasted with Marinho Chagas' more unstable and controversial and "superstar" profile, which made Carlinhos a safer alternative when necessary.OTHER LINKS:
