Dwight Tiendalli was a Dutch right and left back of relative prominence, with good defensive skills and tactical discipline, who built his career between Dutch and British football. Discovered by FC Utrecht, he rose to prominence at Feyenoord and later lived his best moment at FC Twente, where he was a starter in the team that won the Eredivisie in the 2009–10 season, as well as contributing to the Dutch Super Cup and KNVB Cup wins. His playing style was based on solid marking, good tactical reading and the ability to play on both flanks effectively, even without much offensive prominence.
After his successful spell at FC Twente, Tiendalli moved to Swansea City in Wales, who were playing in the Premier League. At the British club, he was part of the squad that won the 2012–13 English League Cup, where he was a useful and reliable reserve, used in a variety of defensive positions. Eventually he got called up to the Dutch national team for two games, although without sequence. Dwight Tiendalli became known as a functional, discreet and committed player who found his place in organized and competitive teams.
