Ola John was a Dutch winger and attacking midfielder of Liberian origin, known for his speed, one-on-one ability and explosive potential, which he revealed at a young age at FC Twente. He emerged as one of the great prospects of Dutch football in the late 2000s, quickly standing out in the Eredivisie for his ability to create space on the flanks, with short dribbling, good ball control at high speed and accurate crossing - qualities that caught the attention of big clubs in Europe.
In 2012, he was signed by Benfica, where he had a good time, participating in victorious campaigns in national and continental competitions, but without being able to establish himself as a regular starter. Despite his obvious talent, he faced strong competition in the Portuguese squad and began to be loaned out frequently to clubs such as Hamburg, Reading, Wolverhampton and Deportivo La Coruña, also moving to smaller clubs later on, without ever regaining the brilliance of his early career. Ola John was called up to the Dutch national team, but he did not establish himself as a regular name among a very competitive generation. His style of play was always marked by physical explosion, creativity on the wings and an attacking vocation, although inconsistency and physical issues limited his development.
