He played for São Paulo Futebol Clube from 1952 to 1962, reaching 450 official appearances and scoring 232 goals, becoming the second-highest scorer in São Paulo FC's history. Gino was one of those center forwards who were known as tanks in the 1950s and 1960s. They would stay up front, waiting for a good pass, a good cross, or a blunder from the opposing defense to mercilessly send the ball into the net. He wasn't technically gifted, but he was feisty, determined, strong, and even intimidating. With a distinct style, Gino Orlando divided every opportunity and created countless scoring opportunities. His participation was crucial in the 1953 São Paulo State Championship title. Between 1956 and 1957, his name was frequently called up to the Brazilian national team. He played 8 matches and scored 3 goals, including a bicycle kick against Portugal in 1956.
