INFO:
Bagheri is a former defensive midfielder, capable of playing as central midfielder, sweeper and centre back. He spent most of his career at Persepolis, making 24 appearances in 1996-97 and 197 from 2002 to 2011, scoring a total of 46 goals. He had a good experience in Germany at Arminia Bielefeld, playing 55 matches in Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, scoring 7 times. He played also for Tractor Sazi and Keshavarz in Iran, Al-Nasr in the United Arab Emirates, Charlton Athletic in England, Al-Sadd in Qatar. He capped for Iran 87 times, scoring 50 goals, although 7 came in one single match against Maldives in 1997. He was included in the Team of the Tournament of the 2000 AFC Asian Cup.
Considered one of Iran's biggest football legends, Bagheri unfortunately was injury prone and never consistently fit. Nonetheless, he was a tenacious holding midfielder, gifted with a strong physique, high stamina, hard tackling ability, and an eye for goal. He was a threat during set pieces as he was tough to stop during his timely runs from the midfield. He was extremely effective in the air as well as from long range thanks to an excellent heading ability and a tremendous right-footed long range shot, regarded at his time as one of the most powerful in the world. He was comfortable with the left foot and sometimes he was in charge of free kicks. Even though he scored a high number of goals, he missed many goals as he frequently attempted the long range shot that often went over the crossbar. He was combative in front of the defensive line, fighting to win numerous balls, although he was at times overly aggressive. He wasn't notably fast but he possessed remarkable technical skills and good ball distribution even though it wasn't always accurate. He occasionally scored from penalty.
