Mohamed Al-Deayea is a legendary Saudi Arabian goalkeeper, considered by many as the best Asian goalkeeper of all time. He played for Saudi Arabia from 1993 to 2006 and at three world cups (he was also in the squad in 2006 but didn't play any matches), and at the time of his retirement was the most capped footballer of all time, playing in 178 matches. Despite his tall frame, he was mostly famous for his incredible athleticism, with acrobatic leaps and cat-like agility being the basis of his game. He was also very quick off his line and had excellent reflexes, notably often using his feet to save shots, reputedly learned from his upbringing as a handball goalkeeper. He famously also wore long trousers on the pitch. His biggest weak points were on long range shots and on crosses, mostly because he often misjudged the flight of the ball and sometimes even completely missed the ball. His decisions were sometimes erratic and led to high profile errors, often undoing his previous excellent work by giving away an easy goal. He sometimes had trouble commanding his box and was too passive at times, relying on his reflexes at the last minute instead of snuffing out the danger earlier, and was also prone to being too flashy with his saves, exaggerating his acrobatic leaps on relatively easy catches. Saudi Arabia also went through several ups and downs during his career, with him notably performing excellently at the 1994 World Cup as the Saudis surprised everyone by reaching the second round, but also later on conceding 8 goals in matches against both Brazil in the Confederations Cup and, famously, Germany at the 2002 World Cup. Still, he was officially voted the best Asian goalkeeper of the 20th century by IFFHS and had many legendary moments as part of the best ever Saudi generation.
