He was a full back who liked to get forward with the ball but also played very deep when the Saudis lost the ball which meant he was rarely caught too far forward. He was often the team's creative outlet, being one of the better passers and dribblers on the team, and was often used to start the counterattacks that the Saudis thrived on. His lack of height and power meant he found it hard to deal with physical players but his quickness and stamina allowed him to harass opposition defenders, even if he wasn't a particularly special tackler or strong positionally. He was also extremely one footed. Despite this he was known for scoring spectacular goals from long range, and he was also a threat from set pieces, sometimes taking corners and even scoring free kicks. With the legendary Majed Abdullah's fitness being questionable in his older age, Al-Jawad was often the captain and leader of Saudi Arabia's greatest generation. |
