Mimms is a former goalkeeper. He played for several clubs including Everton, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers. He was always been a second choice in these big clubs, except in the 1992-93 season, where he played 42 matches for Blackburn Rovers. He retired in 2001.
Mimms was a decent goalkeeper, gifted with good agility despite his size and the fine ability to save shots from the distance. On the other hand, he was less effective out of the goal in a 1-on-1 situation, being not hard to beat with a dribbling or a shot.
