Boghossian is a former central or defensive midfielder, capable of playing as right side midfielder or left back out of necessity. His career started in 1989 at Olympique Marseille B. After a loan at Istres in 1992-93, he spent one season in Olympique Marseille's first team. He then transferred to Italy, where he played 69 matches for Napoli from 1994 to 1997, scoring 4 goals. He was signed by Sampdoria in 1997, having an excellent season as he made 36 appearances and scored 8 goals. He eventually had his most successful time at Parma from 1998 to 2002, playing 102 games, scoring 8 times and winning two Coppa Italia, a UEFA Cup and an Italian Supercup. Unfortunately, he suffered several physical problems starting from the second season with the Ducati. He retired in 2003 after an unsuccessful season at Espanyol. He capped for France in 26 occasions, scoring twice and winning the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Boghossian was a very good midfielder, distinguished in particular for his excellent stamina. He wasn't remarkably quick but knew the right timing to rush towards the goal and receive the ball inside the box, taking advantage of his superb heading and good tap-in qualities. He could be a threat also from outside the box due to his powerful shots. He possessed fine technical skills, although he preferred playing the ball in a simple way. He had great vision and could distribute the ball superbly. His short passes were accurate, fast and more frequent but his crosses were also good. Other than being efficient in the attack, he supported the defence brilliantly. He covered very well, taking advantage of his great strength and ball recovering ability to anticipate or tackle an opponent. He showed these qualities even more during a match with France against Norway in 1998, where he was deployed as left back. When he played in his natural position of central or defensive midfielder, he sometimes supported the back-line during the defensive phase to the point that he looked like an additional centre back.
