INFO:Melikyan is a former left side midfielder or left winger. Born in Armenia, his career began in 1977 at SKIF Yerevan. He spent the majority of his career at Ararat Yerevan, where he made 307 appearances in two spells, from 1978 to 1984 and from 1988 to 1991, scoring 43 goals. He played also for Kortayk, Ukrainian teams SKA Odessa and Dnepr as well as Russian team Spartak Moskva. He transferred to Lebanon in 1991, playing for Homenmen Beirut from 1991 to 1998 and Sagesse from 1998 to 2000. He retired one year later after a short comeback to Homenment Beirut. Naturalized Lebanese, he capped 36 times for Lebanon from 1993 to 1997, scoring 3 goals.
Melikyan was a skillful and agile player, distinguished for his technical abilities and dribbling. He was very good at interacting with his teammates, a brilliant "maestro" and one of the best midfielders in terms of ball touch. He didn't have a very strong physique but he didn't fear rushing towards the opposing box, challenging the goalkeeper and anticipate him with a header or even protecting the ball between a couple of defenders before scoring. In Lebanon he was already in his thirties but he was superior to the other players and earned the nickname "the King".
