Fernando Couto is legendary Portuguese defender who represented his nation for over a decade. He started his career with Porto, but he reached his peak abroad. He was very successful player, he won trophies in three different countries. He was strong center back, who was great in the aerial battles, he was very tough, combative, but also, he could play the ball. In his Porto days he was also used as a striker if the result wasn't good for his team and took long range free kicks. He represented his country at four major tournaments, last one at Euro 2004 where his country lost in the finals on the home soil.
