Ib Simonsen was a legendary Aalborg defender, captain of the team that won the club's first league title. He was a tall sweeper, strong with good positioning. He made almost 400 appearances for AaB but was never capped for his country. He had a pretty decent scoring record but wasn't a technical player. He could occasionally play a nice short pass but a lot of his balls were aimless and just hit very hard into nowhere. He also wasn't a fast or agile player due to his height but he used his other attributes to his advantage. He was also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder.
