INFO:Jafar is a former right winger and right side midfielder. His career began in 1983. He played in Iraq for Al-Talaba, Al-Rasheed and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, in Qatar for Qatar SC, Al-Ittihad Doha and Al-Wakrah, in Lebanon for Al-Ansar. He retired in 2003. He gained 71 caps for Iraq, scoring 16 goals and taking part to the Arabian Gulf Cup in 1986, 1988 ─ where he was voted MVP of the tournament ─ and 1990. Almost called up for the 1986 FIFA World Cup, he was left home by Evaristo de Macedo, who believed Jafar was inexperienced. The striker was then a key player in 1993 and 1994, when he almost led Iraq to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
Regarded as one of the best ever players in the history of Iraq, Jafar was named by IFFHS as country's third greatest player behind Ahmed Radhi and Hussein Saeed. Jafar was an efficient, clever and creative attacking player, mostly renowned for his great quickness and ability to escape from the defenders with his dribbling. He was gifted with mentality, speed of thought and great skills. He possessed superb ball control, a powerful right-footed shot and could score from difficult positions.
