Francioso is a former centre forward, who played also as left winger and secondary striker. His career began in 1983. He played for many clubs including Avellino, Lecce and Genoa, mostly though in Serie B and lower leagues. He had his best time at Genoa when he was already over 30 years old, scoring 88 goals in 133 matches from 1998 to 2002. He retired in 2006.
Highly prolific almost wherever he played, Francioso was a solid and strong striker, gifted with good technique and excellent heading ability. He was especially efficient when he attacked in deep spaces. His could deliver powerful shots and was an able free kick as well as penalty taker. In fact, he scored 16 penalties for Genoa.
