Leader, together with Zvonimir Boban, of the newly born Croatian national team, has scored 20 goals (between qualifiers and finals) in the European Championship, more than Marco Van Basten and Gerd Müller (16). With the shirt of Real Madrid he won the Championship and Champions League (against Juventus, with a goal from Mijatovic). He often clashed with Fabio Capello in the year in which the Italian coach was at the helm of Real, which led to the conquest of the Liga: Capello replaced him very often, but Suker scored his goal record that year. Suker's six goals shot Croatia to third place at France 98 and also won him the Golden Boot. Having won the Champions League with Real Madrid earlier that summer it was certainly a memorable year for him.
