He played for Tam Isfahan from 1983 to 1987 and in 1989-90. In between the two stints, he had a two-year experience at Gendarmerie Tehran. He joined Esteghlal in 1990, remaining there for three years. After a season spent at Sepahan, he transferred to Persepolis in 1994 and retired in 2001. He capped for Iran in 79 occasions. Considered one of the greatest goalkeepers in Iran history, Abedzadeh was distinguished for his big physique and praised for his reflexes and ability to defend the goal. His height guaranteed him good reach as well as efficiency in catching high crosses without relying in remarkable jumps. His quickness in reaction allowed him to go immediately on the ball and catch it after he made a first one-hand deflection. A specialist in stopping penalties, he was crucial in the 1990 Asian Games final against North Korea as he saved two penalty kicks in the shootout. Although, the only two goals he suffered in the tournament were also penalties. During his time at Persepolis, he conceded no goals for 802 consecutive minutes.
