INFO:Peruzzi is a former goalkeeper. His career began in 1987 at Roma. He spent the majority of his career at Juventus and Lazio, respectively making 301 appearances from 1991 to 1999 and 226 from 2000 to 2007, year of his retirement. He played also for Hellas Verona in 1989-90 and Inter in 1999-00. He capped for Italy 31 times, winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup as reserve goalkeeper. He didn't play a match but he was very important in the locker room for the entire length of the competition.
Regarded as one of the best ever Italian goalkeepers, Peruzzi had a complete repertoire. He was gifted with good catching ability, outstanding reaction and excellent sense of position. He was one of the most effective in 1-on-1 situations, covering well the goal. He wasn't very capable with the ball on his feet but could use them to make saves. He was highly efficient between the posts thanks to acrobatic abilities and a very good leap. However he didn't make too many flashy saves, preferring to dive as less as possible, moving along the goal-line and making his saves look easier. That served as psychological advantage against the opposing strikers. A leader outside and inside the field, he instilled confidence to the defence. In addition, he acted many times as sweeper-keeper, making when necessary sudden sprints to take ball off the incoming attacker. In the first half of his career, he was also a penalty saver specialist. The two most memorable rejected penalties are from the 1995-96 UEFA Champions League ─ which was won by his team. His ability out of the goal on high balls ─ usually to reject rather than catch them ─ was often considered as his weakness because he used to avoid challenges with strikers who were taller than him despite his strong physique. He had high mentality and consistent performances throughout his entire career, in which he also had several injuries even though always short.
