He spent most of his career at Brescia − playing 195 matches and scoring 8 goals from 1983 to 1989 − and Parma − 184 games from 1989 to 1994. He played also for Casale, Cesena and Padova among others. He capped once for Italy in 1993. Zoratto wasn't a top player but surely a good one. He was short, tireless and incredibly constant. He was the metronome who dictated the pace and repeatedly gave instructions to his teammates. Whenever he had the ball, he played it simple and rarely missed. During his time at Parma, he was the one who kept the midfield in good form. He was its soul and compass whose ball delivering made Parma's play look like a pinball. He didn't use to make tricks, dribblings and goals but he was essential. Due to his position he could be effective at stopping the opposing attacks thanks to fine speed and reaction but his short size didn't make him strong against bigger uncoming opponents in physical duels. To make up for this gap, his playstyle was based mainly on quick first time touches. He liked to see the ball constantly moving and for this reason he blamed teammates like Benarrivo or Di Chiara, who kept the ball on their feet quite often. Zoratto used to tell them: « give me the ball and run forward, then I'll give it back to you. I do nothing with the ball because I'm small and the opponents can easily take it away from me. I deliver it back on your feet, so we can attack quickly ». https://youtu.be/xH2AKTu1nhw?t=14 , https://youtu.be/v6O9j_fXNTY?t=16 examples of his crosses and through passes |
