INFO:
Festa was a centre back and right back, also used in the midfield in his early career. He grew up at Cagliari, where he played from 1986 to 1993 − excluding a loan in Serie D in 1987-88 − and in 2003-04, for a total of around 200 matches and 2 goals. He joined Inter in 1993 but mostly played between 1994 and 1997: 88 games and 4 goals. He then played for Middlesbrough from 1997 to 2002, appearing 171 times and scoring 12 goals. He played also for Roma, Portsmouth and Nuorese.
Festa was a good and strong man marker, capable to intercept his opponent in the air thanks to a good leap. Less effective on the ground or in 1-on-1 situations, at Inter he not rarely made mistakes regarding bad positioning or insecurity on what to do and then being unable to react quickly. He wasn't very fast nor technically gifted but he still could push forward with the ball on his feet, support the attack and deliver decent short passes. When he joined Middlesbrough, he adapted very well to the English football. He improved in several aspects like headers, general technique and distribution of the ball. He was more careful, supported the attack often and could be dangerous inside the opposing box.
