INFO:Caricola was a centre back, sweeper or side back. His professional career began in 1981 at Bari. He joined Juventus in 1983. He was considered an excellent defender but also a reserve because he was the main substitute of the two irreplaceable defenders Gaetano Scirea and Sergio Brio. He played 86 matches for the
Bianconeri in four seasons. He eventually transferred to Genoa, where he spent the majority of his career: 259 games, scoring 7 goals, from 1987 to 1995 ─ excluding a very short spell at Torino in 1994. He retired in 1997 after spending two years in the United States at New York Metrostars.
Caricola was a lanky defender, versatile, gifted with personality, nice technique and good speed, right-footed but capable with the left too. He wasn't a shooter but he scored a great long range goal in a 3-1 win against Real Oviedo during the 1991-92 UEFA Cup. Caricola was a careful man marker and the centre forward was usually assigned to him. He possessed an excellent leap that made him a dangerous header inside the opposing box. He probably wasn't very able at distributing the ball and not always communicated well with the other defenders. In fact, he sometimes committed mistakes that gave the opposing forward the chance to score.
