Attack/Defence Awareness Card: Defence MindedINFO:Franck Alain James Leboeuf or Lebœuf (born on 22 January 1968 near Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhône) is a former French international footballer who played as a defender. With the French national team, Leboeuf won the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Leboeuf played over 200 games for the Blues after making the switch from Strasbourg in 1996 and was a key part of the side that rediscovered the art of winning silverware for Chelsea.
Some of his memories of that time can be viewed here.
A sweeper or a centre-back, he found the net an impressive 24 times, helped considerably by his accurate penalty-taking abilities.
His was a colourful stay in London. Highly quotable and capable of attracting on-pitch controversy, his time at Chelsea was the most successful period of his career, and not only for the silverware won with Chelsea. In 1998 Leboeuf was part of France's World Cup-winning side.
In the Legends interview he recalls an episode of They Think It's All Over when every time he was the butt of a joke he responded 'I've won the World Cup'.
It was a joke and one that backfired.
But Leboeuf's actions on the pitch spoke louder than words and he was a key part of the way Chelsea played under Ruud Gullit and Gianluca Vialli, even if was he blamed by some for the Italian manager's departure, as he discusses. He was clear about his dislike for 'boring' Italian football.
He never lost his love for Chelsea however where he helped us to two FA Cups, the Coca-Cola Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup and a Champions League quarter-final.
