INFOMirsad Hibić is a Bosnian retired professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Hibić was elegant and reliable centre back with good technique and ability to carry the ball out from defence safely. His main asset was great anticipating to intercept the balls and his sliding tackles. Hibić was a true defence leader in all teams he played. He also captained Sevilla, Atletico and Bosnian NT. Mirsad was born in Zenica and started to play in local club Čelik. In his last season for Čelik 1991/1992 Hibić, as the 18 year old, played 18 matches and 17 as a starter. He wasn't neither red or yellow carded in all those matches what's brillant for a 18 years old defender. In 1992 he moved to Hajduk Split. Hibić spent 4 great seasons in Split with winning few league titles and cups and playing in the quarterfinal of Champions League in 1995 against mighty (at the time) Ajax. Hibić was also named as the best player of Croatian league. In 1996 Hibić went on to play for Sevilla in which he remained for the next 4 seasons. After arriving in Spain, Hibić seriously injured his ligaments and had to spend almost the entire season in rehabilitation. Four years in Sevilla put him on the map of many Spanish clubs. However, Atletico Madrid was the first to send an offer that Mirsad accepted. A few days later, Real Madrid comes with an offer, but Mirsad rejects it. Even his old coach Jose Antonio Camacho begged Mirsad to move to Real and conquer Spain together, but nothing. Later, he went to the media and made a statement that for him his word is sacred and that he gave his word to Atlético and that not a single figure that Real offered him was enough to trample on it. In 2000 Hibić moved to play for Atletico Madrid. In 2004 he surprisingly announced his retirement from active football despite the offers from some great European clubs. Hibić said he was disappointed with Bosnia's unsuccessful campaign in qualifications for EURO 2004 and had some health problems, as well as being nostalgic for his home.
