Stroppa was a side or attacking and later also central midfielder. Grown up at Milan, he played for the first team in two occasions, from 1989 to 1991 and in 1994-95, for a total of 85 matches and 9 goals. He played 58 games for Lazio between 1991 and 1993, scoring 6 goals but he wasn't featured much in his second season at the club. His best season came in 1993-94, when he was at Foggia and played 34 matches, scored 11 goals and gained 4 caps for Italy ─ he had a second spell at Foggia in 2004-05, after which he retired from professional football. He played also for Udinese, Piacenza ─ where he had a very good three year spell with 63 games and 3 goals ─ Brescia, Genoa and Avellino among others.
Stroppa was a technically gifted midfielder with good speed. He was excellent with the outside and was capable to use both feet equally well, even though he was mainly right-footed. His main task was to create scoring chances and was capable to deliver fast through passes or curled crosses, both very accurate. He had good dribbling and a powerful shot that he sometimes used to shoot on goal. He was also a superb piece taker During his first year at Foggia, he scored several penalties and a goal from direct corner after giving the ball a great effect. He suffered a lot of condition problems, except in the already mentioned season at Foggia. He lost speed and scoring ability during his time at Piacenza, where he played mostly in central positions. His passes though were still very accurate and his technique still good. Moreover, thanks to his experience he could play efficiently throughout the match and that even when his form wasn't at best, being one of Piacenza's key players and one of the best in Serie A at that time.
