Verdelli is a former sweeper or centre back. His career began in 1981 in lower leagues. He joined Inter in 1988, playing 57 matches in two seasons. In 1990, he transferred to Cremonese, where he had his longest spell, playing 219 games and scoring 3 goals until 1997. He retired one year later after a short experience at Fanfulla.
Verdelli was a good defender, strong, very slow but elegant and gifted with remarkable technique. Because of that, his performances were often appreciated. Efficient in the defence, he usually stayed behind the other defenders and eventually triggered an offensive play from the back. He had though a low offensive prowess. Captain and leader of Cremonese, he was the one who commanded the defence with personality, always giving the best he could.
