INFO:Laith Hussein is a former central or attacking midfielder, capable of playing also as winger and centre forward. His career began in 1985. He played for Al-Zawraa, Al-Rasheed, Al-Wakrah and Al-Ansar. He retired in 2003. He gained 80 caps for Iraq and scored 21 goals. At youth level, he took part to the 1988 Olympics and won the AFC Youth Championship the same year. After the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship, where he scored against Spain, he received attention from big clubs and almost joined Barcelona but the negotiations failed.
One of the most prominent ever Iraqi players, Hussein possessed outstanding talent and was considered as one of the main midfielders of Iraq national team in the 1990s. He was gifted with explosive pace, a powerful shot and accuracy with both feet. He was a threat especially from 30-yards. Mainly a midfielder but comfortable in the attacking line too, he was equally effective in the center as much as in a wider position. He also was a feared dead ball specialist.
