I'm not sure for the early years set: I read that he played mainly advanced midfielder, also in Inter 1992 he played in this position.

During the period at Inter he played as AMF, as you can read here:

Therefore I propose to insert in the set 1990-1993, the position AMF.

I doubt he ever was that good in DEF (both sets), just compare him to Dunga, Jeremies or Makélélé (or even Gattuso), DMF's who simply stopped their opponents, Sammer in other hand, most of the time he chased them, with 86 in the younger set and 90 in the older set, he's in line with some of the top defenders in his time (and ever), something he wasn't, he was more an playmaker swepper in front of the defense.

MEN in the other hand is well deserved, such a great leader and fighter he was, the real skipper in their 96 Euro conquest compared to Klinsmann.
